Aerospace Bearing Solutions

Posted on May 10, 2018 Robert Jones Bearings

Aircraft Parts Manufacturers are all creating bearings for different solutions. There are also manufacturers that sell their own internationally accepted bearings for different solutions like GGB bearing technology. For example, they manufacture and distribute DU® steel-backed metal-polymer bearing, and lightly lubricated DX® tape-based bearing for grease or oil lubricated appliance.

Below are examples of bearings and their aerospace bearing solutions:

  1. DU-B bronze-backed, metal-polymer bearings have a strong resistance to deuteriation, large load capabilities and, an expanded component life. DP4-B is also another type of bronze-backed, metal-polymer bearing. DP4-B is used in larger military shipment planes. These bearings provide little friction, great wear resistance and handle the utmost operation temperatures.
  2. Steel-backed DU bearings come in standard and custom. Steel-backed DU bearings are also used in drones and personal jets. In aircraft-proven bearings they can give large load capacity, lengthy service life, space and weight cutback.
  3. DP4-B self-lubricating plain bearings work well under irregular operations that move at a normal speed. They can also resist high heat and corrosion at a more superior level than other bearings because of their bronze backings.
  4. DP4-B self-lubricating bearings are used in rotary aircraft applications.
  5. DU-B bearings are used in the swivel to unlock and lock lifting winches on big military and commercial helicopters. The bearings can allow 15 years of heavy usage without any maintenance needed.
  6. GGB DU self-lubricating aerospace bearings have gone all over, even visiting Mars on NASA’s Curiosity rover.
  7. DX metal-polymer bearings are used for missiles on jet fighter aircrafts. On these types of aircrafts, bearings are exposed to high temperatures and oscillating movements of the connecting rods.
  8. DX grease lubricated bearings give choice performance at comparably low speeds and high loads.
  9. GGB EP engineered plastic bearings are also used in interior applications as well. Some include overhead storage components, interior applications and, gallery fixtures.

There are many other aerospace functions bearings are used for. For example, there are anti-fail bushings, hydraulic fuel pumps, wing de-icing schemes, shock absorbers and aircraft landing gear struts.
